The Singing Carer

The Singing Carer

Earlier this year, our Trafford Branch received it’s first CQC report, and they achieved a ‘Good’ rating in all five categories regulated by the Care Quality Commission, including 'safe', 'effective', 'caring', 'responsive' and 'well-led.'.

A good enough story on its own, and worthy of a mention on our website. However, the stories behind the headlines are often more interesting, and its one of these we want to share with you.

One of our Senior Care Workers in Trafford, is a lovely lady named Bev Perkins. Bev is a bubbly and happy person who brings a little of that happiness everywhere she goes. Bev was mentioned in the CQC report, not just because of her excellent care work, but because she does something a little different. Bev Perkins is known as the ‘Singing Carer’. Bev sings with many of our clients, whilst she goes about her job – a little bit of Elvis here, a little bit of Motown there. We have some clients who like to sing hymns with Bev as an expression of their faith, and she will join in with those that she knows, and will also join people in saying their prayers where this gives them comfort. It’s this kind of consideration which makes care more than a job and makes people feel happy and at ease when they need care.

The Singing Carer

Many of us love Music, it can trigger golden memories, and especially benefit people with dementia. Everyone remembers songs from their past – their first kiss, a wedding song or seeing their parents dance, and we often use music to remember people we’ve lost. Music can have many benefits in the setting of dementia. It can reduce anxiety and depression, help maintain speech and language, is helpful at the end of life, enhances quality of life and has a positive impact on carers. Here at ICare, we’re ever so proud of the team, and especially Bev, for their caring and positive approach.

Following the sad passing of Michael from flat 38 Tulloch Court, I want to give my thanks to the ICare team for their support. Michael's care needs were always considered, and he was treated with dignity and grace. ICare went above and beyond to ensure a dignified end; they were amazing to Michael and gave great comfort to a very poorly man.

My overall experience is 5 out of 5 and I just want to say how safe and respected I feel by my regular carers. My two carers are really nice ladies, that always make me feel as if I'm not a burden and it's a pleasure to see me.

I would like to thank all the lovely carers from I Care that so lovingly and happily looked after my Mum for over the last 12 months. She loved you all and were an endless source of help to her and all the family. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Staff always do their best to be friendly and helpful, even when things haven't run as smoothly as usual. Management are open to concerns and try to accommodate requests as best they can. Recently there have been some staff changes but nothing too disruptive, it has been well managed to minimise the impact on my family. Greatly appreciated!

I Care have been providing care to my Mum for 3 weeks now, very nice staff who take the time to listen and give care the way she wants. Can't fault them, really. The managers have been really helpful, and even sorted out a lift for Mum to hospital so she didn't have to wait for an ambulance.
